MINNEAPOLIS – (Jan. 13, 2010) – To educate and inspire people to value, conserve and protect Minnesota’s water resources, the Freshwater Society is launching a yearlong initiative, 2010: The Year of Water, with a free public lecture by Will Steger, noted polar explorer.
“The time is now to make a total cultural shift in how we view our water resources in Minnesota,” said Gene Merriam, president of Freshwater Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising public awareness about water issues.

Stonyfield Farm is helping the Will Steger Foundation send a dozen young leaders on an expedition to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, December 5-19 to help raise awareness for what’s at stake: our kids and the health of the planet they’ll inherit.
Expedition Copenhagen will be led in part by internationally renowned polar explorer Will Steger, with Stonyfield Farm as the lead sponsor. Delegates will assume a leadership role in a regional climate campaign to pass strong climate legislation leading up to the international negotiations, and will also support the Will Steger Foundation Citizen Climate curriculum in schools across the United States.

Reed Aronow, a Minnesota youth delegate to the Copenhagen climate negotiations in December with the Will Steger Foundation, will launch a 15-day bike tour on October 10th in honor of the 350 International Day of Climate Action (www.350.org). As the ride progresses, Aronow and other riders will visit organizations, farms, and businesses around Minnesota to discuss clean energy and the importance of upcoming federal legislation and the U.N. conference on climate change in Copenhagen this December.

The international team includes emerging leaders from Norway, Great Britain, Canada and the United States; together, they aim to inspire and mobilize Generation Y to act collectively to solve global warming.

MINNEAPOLIS – October 31, 2007: Today the Will Steger Foundation announced that Will Steger is the recipient of two prestigious international awards for his exploration of climate change: the 2007 Lowell Thomas Award, presented jointly by The Explorer’s Club and Rolex Watch U.S.A., Inc.; and National Geographic Adventure’s Second Annual Lifetime Achievement Award.

Will Steger recently returned from the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen, Denmark where he witnessed the critical role the U.S. plays in moving the international climate community forward on a legally, binding climate treaty; the U.S. Senate must pass energy and climate legislation in order for the U.S., and emerging economies like China and India, to agree on a binding international agreement that uses a market-based approach to limit emissions.
